The First-Generation University Initiative is comprised of a group of administrators, staff, and faculty who are charged with advancing and supporting priorities for first-generation students. The FGUI working groups are focused on the execution of specific first-generation projects and deliverables, while the FGUI standing committees focus on establishing a cohesive strategy that supports first-generation efforts.

FGUI Goals
- To address the social, academic, and financial barriers that impact first-generation student success.
- To increase awareness and visibility of the first-generation experience by making resources and support explicit for students, parents and families, faculty, and staff.
How We Get There
Year 1 (2023-24): Coordinate the first-generation experience by mapping current CSU opportunities and high-impact practices that support first-generation success for undergraduate and graduate students.
Year 2 (2024-25): Identify and address gaps that exist in how we support first-generation student success, and explore methods that are grounded in research and models including the Boyer Commission Equity/Excellence Imperative.
