As part of its commitment to student success, Colorado State University offers assistance and programs specifically for First Generation Students.

First Generation status is defined for CSU as students whose parents did not complete a bachelor’s degree or higher.

In 1980 a study revealed the correlation of first generation students with low-income backgrounds and the chance of earning a college degree. Colorado State University officially started its recognition of first generation college students in 1984 with the creation of its First Generation Award program. Since then, CSU continues to work on proudly recognizing its first generation learners and contributing to their academic success.
